Akai Kuma
The Brand
Akai Kuma is the British menswear label that in only two years has established itself as a cult brand in the marketplace, thanks to its distinctive designs inspired by the Far East.
The collection
August 2006: British menswear label Akai Kuma hits the stores with the Autumn 06 collection inspired by the city of Shanghai.
This season the brand offers a sharper, cleaner range and the eastern influence is now visible only in discreet, yet distinctive details.
The never-ending journey into the myths and cultures of the Far East brings Akai Kuma to ancient Shanghai, where the Ming Dynasty had gifted the world with superb traditional Chinese Art. Nowadays the Ming patterns are to be found in the Akai Kuma shirts which feature imperial prints with a modern twist.
A medley of cardigans, cricket jumpers and striped knits have been added to the range to satisfy the needs of a more mature and demanding customer.
The collection is completed by a selection of polos, t-shirts and jackets with small oriental embroideries just to remind us where the inspiration comes from.
The color palette comprises warm reds, greens and browns alongside white, pink and turquoise.
The stores
Cruise (Edinburgh, Glasgow), Sakis (Sheffield), Plank (Nottingham), Dr Kruger (Lancaster), Bentalls (Kingston)
